On October 25, 2016, the six members of The Sons of Abraham came together to celebrate their 4th anniversary of becoming members of Truth and Union Lodge #594.  The members came in under then sitting Worshipful Master Derrick Abrams, Sr. on October 25, 2012.

​The ties of Brotherhood were strengthened with good food and the sharing of fond memories.  Original members include: (left to right) Bro. Jason Dewberry, Bro. Aqil Shakur, Bro. Abu Swaray, Bro. Antonio Molina, Bro. Stephen Wicks, and Bro. Tonzia Wei.

The name 'Sons of Abraham' was chosen due to the diverse religious backgrounds of the members.  Even though they come from different backgrounds they still came together as one and remain so until this day.  ​(Philippians 2:2 - Fulfil ye my joy, that ye be likeminded, having the same love, [being] of one accord, of one mind.)

Brother Jason Russell, 32° was awarded 'Scottish Rite Mason Of The Year' by Atlanta Consistory #24-A.  Brother Russell has been a member of the Consistory since 2014 and currently serves as the KSA for the organization.

The prestigious award was given on Saturday October 22, 2016 during the annual joint banquet and crowning ceremony of Atlanta Consistory #24-A and Esther R. Walters Assembly #24-A.  Commander In Chief, Joel West, 33° presented the award and spoke about how hard Brother Russell works on behalf of the administration.

Brother Russell joined Truth and Union Lodge in 2012 via demit from the Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge of South Carolina.  He currently sits as our Senior Warden where he coordinates the charitable efforts of our lodge.

We are proud to have him as a member and are excited to see what the future holds for our Brother.

The Truth and Union KOP is proud to announce that on Saturday October 22, 2016, one of our members, Derrick Abrams, Jr. has been awarded the 2016 Benjamin Barksdale Scholarship.  Each year, Atlanta Consistory #24-A (Prince Hall Scottish Rite Masons), gives out the scholarship to a deserving high school senior / college freshman.

Derrick Abrams, Jr. is the son of Truth and Union Lodge #594 Past Master Derrick Abrams, Sr. and his widow Tiffany Abrams.  He is currently matriculating at Georgia Southern University.

The scholarship is named after Benjamin Barksdale, 33° Active, Past Grand Master of The Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge of Georgia and Past Honorary Commander In Chief of Atlanta Consistory #24-A. 

We are extremely proud of Derrick and he is being an excellent example to his peers in the KOP.

On Thursday October 20, 2016 it was a spectacular night indeed as Truth and  Union Lodge #594 had the latest installment of their popular lecture series.  The night featured lectures by Brother Bill Thorne of Tappen Zee Lodge #79 of the New York Prince Hall jurisdiction, PM Louis Negron of Truth and Union and the keynote lecture was from DGM Corey Shackelford, Sr. from the MWPHGLGA.

After lectures and dialogues, remarks were heard from visitors and then our sitting Worshipful Master, Pshone Ward.

Many thanks to our visitors from other lodges such as Tappen Zee Lodge #79, Foundation Lodge #592, and W.C. Thomas Lodge #112.  A few photos from the historic night are included in this article.

On Saturday October 15, 2016, The Truth and Union KOP viewed 'The Birth Of A Nation' movie as a group.  ​The Birth of a Nation is a 2016 American period drama film based on the story of Nat Turner, the enslaved man who led a slave rebellion in Southampton County, Virginia, in 1831. The film is co-written, co-produced and directed by Nate Parker.

Eight young men attended the viewing and we would like to thank Brothers Demetrius Hutchinson and Paul Mateen for taking the lead on the event.
